How to Be An Ally

Our goal is to protect the culture of our city, and prevent harm to our Jewish neighbors. This is not a political campaign, and we are not advocating for specific policy. Join us in a commitment to prevent hate.

Some examples of allyship:

Check in with your Jewish friends. Many are hurting and scared, and knowing that you care makes a difference. Ask what’s changed for them in our local community in the past few months.

Educate yourself about the more subtle manifestations of antisemitism, and the boundary between appropriate political activism and creating a culture of harm. Like many other forms of prejudice, it’s hard to “see” until you train yourself to see it.

Help your friends avoid contributing to a culture of hate by pointing out antisemitic language and behavior.  If you believe they have good intentions, help them learn how to avoid harm.

Call out hate where you see it, at work, at school, in the community. Report concerning behavior to HR, a supervisor, and to an organization that’s tracking antisemitism such as SafeWashington , the ADL , Stop Hate in Schools (K-12) or this college campus collaboration.

Encourage leaders in your community to get educated and be proactive. Share this website, encourage them to sign up for a training with Project Shema or the Anti Defamation League, or to reach out to info@callitantisemitism.com to be directed to other resources and support.

Schedule a training for your leadership team, staff, DEI network or community group. Educating your team is a great way to build a shared culture that’s healthy and supportive.

SHOW THAT You’re an Ally.
